And so it begins....
It nags at the soul from somewhere deep within, an itch that you can never seem to reach. Staring out a frosted window into the darkness of a city deprived of the suns rays, one can not be blamed for dreaming of an escape into a faraway world, away from the bright lights of cities, buzzing of mobile phones, emails, television and sirens. So, in the depth of London winter, 3 silly men opened discussions about LOW (life after work), for 2012 anyway.....
Africa has always called. Tales of open deserts, ancient tribes, rare animals and a culture, unknown to most, were enough stimuli for us to plan our adventures. Starting with a long (and probably drunken) flight on October 28, 2012 - 4 silly men, armed with youthful energy and bravado, plan on tackling the dusty streets of Eastern Africa on bicycle. We have been blessed with travelling opportunities thus far in our short lives. Having backpacked, bused, driven and cycled through our fair share of lands, the choice of transport for this upcoming adventure was easy. I'll let Mr Hemmingway sum up our decision to embark on another cycling adventure;
It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle. ~ Ernest Hemingway
So there we have it - 4 amigos ready to take on approx 3,000km in Eastern Africa. Should be interesting, if nothing else!!!!
